OmeshFest 2004 Part II - Boston

These pics were taken in Boston, MA on October 17 and 18, 2004.

After the party in Colchester, I drove out to Boston to hang out with Joye in Boston.

We started out by going on a Whalewatching trip put on by Boston Harbor Cruises. They took us out to Stellwagen Bank a few miles from shore where we got to spend time with Geometry, an adult Humpback Whale that was born in 1997. While we only got to see one whale, we saw a lot of him, probably spending over 2 hours with that one whale alone. We saw him spout a few times, but he didn't breach at all. You can identify different whales by their fluke (or tail), but Geometry was too quick for me to get a good shot of his fluke. The coolest part was seeing the ghostly image of the whale's huge flippers slowly following alongside the boat, glowing a faint green. They're not really green, and they don't glow, but it's an image caused by the reflection of light through the greenish water onto the white flippers. Very cool. On the way back I even got a nice shot of the Boston skyline. BTW, if anyone is looking for a really good restaurant in Boston, don't miss Naked Fish, as the food there is excellent.

The next day, we went to the Museum of Science to see the Lord of the Rings Exhibit. It was really cool, but you can't take pictures in there. Since she works there, Joye was able to give me a backstage tour of some of the museum. I got to see poison dart frogs, the bobcat, a falcon feeding on a rat, and even an alligator! They also had a cool, life-size model of a T-Rex!

Next, we signed up for a Duck Tour. These tours take you all over the city in a amphibious DUCK, and then straight into the Charles River for an even better view of the city, and, er, ducks. It was lots of fun. BTW, our DUCK was Fenway Frannie, and the conDUCKtor was "Ace Bandage", who was funny as hell. If you ever take a tour, see if you can get one with Ace.
